Free WIFI Still the Biggest Must

It’s been brilliant to see so many of you share your experiences and comments on my last blog post about free WI-FI. Hotels.com have recently released the results of their 2012 Hotel Amenities Survey. You can see the highlights on this infographic. Not surprisingly, free WI-FI is still the most important amenity to hotel goers.

Thanks for sharing this recent survey James. Demand for free wireless by travellers is one thing that is just going to continue to increase.
Why do accommodation operators (particularly hotels/motels) persist in charging expensive rates for this and are there preferred internet providers out there that make it more affordable to supply it for free?

I’m bucking the trend re age and preferences .. over 60 and choosing free wifi over breakfast any day!

I’m with Heather – staying connected when a “road warrior” as I believe people like me are called is more important than anything else. Airports vary enormously in their consideration of this traveller need. You can buy all kinds of designer clothing; duty free anything; occasionally an edible meal but wifi is rarely free; and try looking for power plugs and business service (printers)??

Yeah, I totally agree with everyone. Wifi should come as a package deal with the hotel room. As a frequent traveler myself, I like to use http://www.trivago.co.nz to choose hotels according to my preferences avoid any of those little surprises like Anna said;no power plugs, expensive wifi etc
